Unexpected happy things

So today I was out doing karaoke with a friend from college and some of his Japanese friends. For those of you who don't know, Japanese style karaoke is different. Instead of having to sing at a bar in front of strangers, you and your friends get your own small room. I like it better because 1) you don't have to feel embarrassed about your singing and 2) you don't have to sit through the bad singing of people who you don't know.
In any case, as I was flipping through songs today, I was thinking about how cool it would be to sing Zuka stuff at karaoke. I had seem some pretty random stuff in the backs of the karaoke books before, so I decided to give it a shot. And lo and behold...there was a Zuka section. It was only about a page long, but it was there. Mostly stuff from a generation or so of siennes or so back (Mami, Aika Mire, Amani Yuki, Tom, Wao, etc), but within that there was some stuff I was familiar with.
As it turns out one of the Japanese girls I was with liked Zuka. We both sang "Ai Areba Koso" (which sounds even sillier when you're looking at the lyrics), she sang a song from Excalibur (which I now want to see), and then I found the jackpot. "Saigo no Dansu." Okay, maybe it's silly to make an entire post about this, but it made me ridiculously happy to belt that one out. I adjusted the key a little so it was in my range, and if I wasn't exactly Zunko, I'd like to think I at least didn't make any mirrors shatter :D
Any chance that any of the karaoke booths in Takarazuka-shi have more songs? If I can find it again, I think I'll be subjecting my friends to "Saigo no Dansu" on a regular basis.

Date: 2007-08-19 11:15 am (UTC)There's the awesome, awesome place I went to with Yoshiko & co, nearish the Tokyo theatre, which has heaps. I'm trying to track the place down for Katharina, and if I can, I'll pass the info on to you, too <333

Date: 2007-08-19 11:17 am (UTC)That would be great. Be careful, though. I can't go karaoke-ing alone, so I may end up drafting you into this when you come back to Japan in the fall :D

Date: 2007-08-19 01:53 pm (UTC)I may not be signing any record deals, but I do love karaoke :D As do the Japanese. That's why on the single CDs there's always the karaoke tracks.

Date: 2007-08-19 01:04 pm (UTC)I have no more to say than that this post amused me greatly :P So yes, it's silly, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't post it. XD
Ok, I have more to say: It never occured to me that the mirror-shattering at the end of Saigo no Dansu might be caused by Toddy's singing... XD XD

Date: 2007-08-19 03:34 pm (UTC)(And I heartily concur with your need to see Excalibur/Citrus no Kaze. The show is just fun. The revue is just crack... and there's so many wonderful, hope-filled songs. Actually, the song your friend sang was most likely "Mirai e," which I know
It's a shame I have to get myself fairly drunk in order to have the courage to really sing in front of anyone - I'm not particularly good -_- Not tone deaf, since I can HEAR what's wrong. I just can't get my voice to match it. *sighs*
