A couple of random jottings

I was talking with sumire_no_hana  the other day about when one half of a Daigekijou show outshines the other.  For me at least, it seemed hard to find a play half AND a revue half that were equally outstanding.  Granted sometimes one is phenomenal and the other is decent, but I had trouble thinking of two halves that were both phenomenal.

Granted, the entire thing is subject to personal opinion about what shows you like to begin with, but the only example I could think of was Prisoner of Zenda/Jazzmania.  Manda added Gekijou/The Revue '99.  (I can't comment since I've only seen Gekijou).

Am I missing anything obvious?

I'm not sure if there is such thing as a terrible revue (once again subject to personal opinion, but this happens to be mine XD).  Even the mediocre revues usually have at least some entertainment value.  But for some of the really, really bad plays...well, I suppose there's some entertainment value, but it gets harder to find ^^;; I guess this is why I would rather have a good play and a mediocre revue than vice versa.

Also, what's the right word to use for "play" in English?  In Japanese they always use 芝居, but I'm never quite sure what to say in English ^^;;;

Sakura/Secret Hunter, at least for me. Secret Hunter may not be overwhelmingly amazing theatre in its own right, but I absolutely love it.

Also, in no particular order:

Datenshi no Namida/Tarantella
A Kiss to the Flames/NeoVoyage
Meet Again/Nova Bossa Nova (I know a lot of people don't like Meet Again, but I adored it)
Silver Wolf/Wonderland

I would say Lightning in the Daytime/Temptation if Lightning in the Daytime were slightly less headhurty and more just legitimately entertaining.

I don't know what anyone has against Lightning. ^_^; Well, except for the intolerably long "we need to fill time, so let's tell the history of France! Again!" scene, but that's only ten minutes at the beginning.
On the other hand, Temptation makes my head hurt, as much as I like the "Chiisai shiroi hana" sequence.

I really like Lightning for the most part, but I have a hard time calling it really excellent. The History of France part, as you said, is interminable, and the INSANE play within a play Othello as conceived by a production designer from Led Zeppelin's Dark Side of the Moon tour is... well... insane. Entertaining, but insane.
