Dancing For You

I wanted to quickly post some "Dancing For You" thoughts.
I don't think there's such thing as a truly awful revue. Even the not so great ones usually have some entertainment value. (Some shows, on the other hand, are painful to sit through -_-;) This is the case with "Dancing For You" in my opinion. It's not great, but that doesn't mean that it's bad either.
I think it was (once again XD)
wao_wao who said that she likes revues with a theme and/or have a story running through either individual scenes or the entire revue. This is my taste as well. Unfortunately, Dancing For You has neither. But what really lowers it in my estimation is that the vast majority of the scenes are nothing you haven't seen before. As I said, even a so-so revue is not so bad, and it was entertaining to watch. But of the three Tanigumi revues, this is the least memorable IMO.
The one exception is the New York number. It starts out with Eriko and Masako in fedoras singing about their love of New York, and then transitions to Tani, Tomu, Micchan, and Tomochin as Nova Bossa Nova-style bums singing about their love of New York. It's really funny XD The four bums then take off their rags to reveal tuxedos underneath, and we switch to a night club-esque setting where Tani has way too much fun playing with some drumsticks and Micchan looks really, really hot in a green shirt XD
The chusume, rockette, and otokoyaku staircase number were also fun, but once again nothing we haven't seen before. However,
wao_wao is once again right in saying that the energy and entertainment value picks up a lot about halfway through.
Also, this is one of the most cut-up DVDs I've seen in a while. Because the revue is fairly short, all of the cut scenes are still included on the DVD, only either without the vocals or with completely different music. I suppose this is better than cutting those scenes completely, but obviously it's not as good as the real thing :P Oh, and I'm bitter about the cutting of Micchan's solo in the Spanish number *grumble*
I want to especially mention Tacchin and her amazing singing. My response to her solo in the opening number was, "Who are they going to get to do this in the Chunichi version????" I'm really, really glad that she got to sing with Micchan one last time. I will miss their mini-combi. Obviously Tacchin's etoile was also amazing. In any case, I wish Tacchin the best of luck in her post-Takarazuka career. I really feel like she has a chance at making it big in the Japanese musical theater world, and her upcoming dinner show is a step in the right direction.
So in short, "Dancing For You" okay-ish revue, but the highlight of this DVD is definitely Paradise Prince. What worries me is that for the Chunichi show, "Dancing For You" may very well end up being the better half...
