So a lot of the Shangri La character names are puns and/or have second meanings based on their kanji.  This is what I have figured out so far: (and er, obviously correct me if I got any of these wrong ^^;)

Oozora Yuuhi (Sora 空):
Sky ("Sora" is an alternate reading of the "zora" part of Yuuhi's name)
Nono Sumika (Miu 美雨): Beautiful Rain (?)
Suzuna Saya (Yun 雲): Cloud
Ranju Tomu (Ran ): Storm ("Ran" is from "Ranju")
Yuumi Hiro (Aisu 氷): Ice (氷 translates to "ice", and "Aisu" would be this word in katakana)
Hokushou Kairi (Kai
海): Sea ("Kai" is from "Kairi")
Toki Irisu (Fon 風): Wind
Hasumi Yuuya (Hyou 雹): Hail
Junya Chitose (Fogu 霧): Fog ( translates to "fog", "Fogu" is a katakana-ized way of writing this
)
Nanami Hiroki (Rui
): Tears
Aihana Chisaki (Hien 飛燕): Flying Swallow (?)
Fujisaki Eri (Mizore 霙): Sleet
Sorahane Riku (Sou
): Blue
Aizuki Hikaru (Kou
): Rouge

Names I haven't figured out yet: Amou Tamaki (Yan Yan 欣欣), Houshou Dai (Bunjaku 文雀), Hanatsuyu Sumika (Fon Fon 芳芳)

I'm having way too much fun XD  Also, I'm predicting Kai-chan as Sumika's lover who vanished.  It's the kind of role she's good at, and with a name that means tears...?  Poor Kai-chan ;)

Alas Mitsuki (my favorite 94th) didn't get a named role, but neither did a lot of other people.  I'm mostly just glad that she got into a show at all.

1. Right at this moment, soragumi is performing Casablanca for the final time.  I'm excited about their next round of projects (and it's not like I've seen the show since early December), but I still feel a little sad.  I really loved Casablanca, and I'm so grateful I got to see it live.

2.  Shuugoubi for Shangri La is on Thursday, apparently.  There's something wrong with me (or rather I've gotten sadly accustomed to overworked soragumisei) when I think, "They get until Thursday off!"  Given that Shangri La starts in about a month, I was worried it was going to be one of those cases where okeiko began two days after Tokyo raku.  *sigh* I do hope they get a decent vacation sometime soon.

3. The end of January marked three years since I became a Takarazuka fan.  (Where exactly has the time gone...?)

Since I've gotten home, I haven't managed to get any work done on my grad school admissions essays. And yet I seem to have found the time to finish my Casablanca review AND write a Christmas card to Micchan >.> For the record, I went into this show thinking of it as "Takarazuka Does Casablanca." I don't think anyone could be Humphrey Bogart, etc. so I tried to think of this "Casablanca" as a completely different animal.

So in conclusion…no, it’s not an absolutely perfect show. But I really, really love it anyway, and I really recommend that everyone see it

This is so not cool T_____________T

I keep on looking at the star tab in hopes that people will be back in the show, but no such luck...

Masako T________T

What terrifies me is that the really highly ranked people may not even have the option of calling out sick unless they're physically at the point where they can't stand up any more. And given that Micchan is also rehearsing for the buyouakai, I really do worry about her.

Not to mention everyone else.

Get well soon, soragumi!

ETA: Totally didn't look at the bottom of the announcement. It looks like at least Kacha, Dai-chan, Kuracchi, Kyanon, and Sattsun are back as of today's show. That's something at least.

I have no idea why the review for "Amour, sore wa..." showed up in front of the "Bara ni Furu Ame" review.  I give up on formatting in LJ with cuts -_-;;;  I'm just grateful that everything appeared, didn't sneak out from under the cut, and isn't entirely in bold :P

YES PLEASE.

CASABLANCA.  SORAGUMI.  FEDORAS.

...okay, fine, I haven't seen the movie.

But I'm going to rent it!

And after I rent it, I will sell off all of my possessions to make this work *knocks on wood*  (ETA: Okay, okay, obviously still not running into anything, as I'm trying really hard to be a Mature Responsible Adult.  But this is certainly a point in favor of going this November.  The only thing that could compete with this would be if Micchan got a lead in the spring...but who knows at this point, really)

*looks around* And no transfers, 'kay thanks.

Couldn't help but write a little something about this.  It's sad, but I'm not surprised.

On an up note, marriage proposals to Ume-chan can start post-retirement.  There's already a queue, but if you hurry you may get a spot in line that's in sight of the Hana no Michi.

Seriously though, I'm glad she was able to come back to soragumi to finish up her career.  I'm sure as an OG she will continue to be stunning.
matataku_hoshi: (Micchan Ramon)

Tonight I watched a DVD copy of the role switch for "Valencia no Atsui Hana."  The last time I saw the role switch (or the show at all) was fall of 2007, so it was interesting to go back and watch it again.

Thoughts under the cut )

Coincidentally enough, the role switch was filmed right after Eriko got sick, but before Chigi had time to take over Eriko's role.  So in this performance, the role of Dan Juan Cardeo was played by...Kacha.  I think I'm a little freaked out by that omen.  (But maybe it means that if I work on Luna tonight, Kiriyan will be announced as the next hoshigumi top? XD)

Anyway, she did fine, but she looked a little young next to the honkouen cast...
matataku_hoshi: (Micchan blame)

So two days ago I finally go to see Micchan's soragumi's latest kouen...

Do any of the new role names announced for "BeruBara: Andre Hen" mean anything to people?  Other than that Marie-Antoinette won't be in the cast?

Same thing with Phoenix Wright...anything major here?

My original prediction was that Masami would retire with this show, so it's interesting that she isn't, obviously especially so given the number of top musumeyaku spots that will be open next year.  (Her not retiring is a good thing.  I like her)

matataku_hoshi: (Micchan and Tacchin in The Second Life)
I SWEAR TO GOD I AM CURSED WHEN IT COMES TO BACKGROUND PEOPLE, EVEN IN MY KUMI-IN-EXILE.

AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THAT OTHER PERSON IN THAT LIST, OR I MAY ACTUALLY CRY.  AND HERE I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT WHAT AN AMAZING PAIR SHE AND KIRIYAN WOULD BE.  EXCUSE ME, I'M GOING TO GO OFF AND SULK FOR A WHILE.

(Sorry, can't actually bring myself to write the names, go and look for yourself.  AND THEN YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN'T STOP THE CAPS LOCKS).
matataku_hoshi: (Micchan and Tacchin in The Second Life)

Eeep, didn't mean to come across so negatively.  Sora is a very talented troupe, and I think they did their best with the material they were given.
matataku_hoshi: (Micchan in Graph)
Okay, so it turns out the part I was having trouble with used the words "black tail coat" and "finale feathers."  No wonder my denshi jisho wasn't finding them ^^;;;  There's still some dodgy spots and I plan on looking this over once more before putting it on the Wiki.  In any case, this is a little late, but happy birthday, Micchan!  (I swear, one of these days I’m going to do an article that’s not about Kiriya Hiromu or Hokushou Kairi.  One day -_-;;)

[personal profile] caithion I hope that it’s okay that I stole the name of this series of articles from your Graph guide on your site.  Let me know if you want me to change it.

The usual disclaimer: I'm only an amateur, so my apologies for any mistakes that are made >_< Feedback and constructive criticism are always appreciated.  Do NOT repost of retranslate without permission

matataku_hoshi: (Ume by pam_hikaru)
So, the sora shinko roles are up.  Hanging around with the lot of you, one starts to take an interest in sora underclassmen vicariously ;P
Eri-chan gets Maikaze Mira's role!  (She seems to be a promising young musumeyaku these days).  Mii-chan gets...Natori Rei's role?  That one's a bit strange, but hopefully she'll still have interesting things to do.  Note to Hankyu: I like my Watson-kun.  Please treat her well.

Now, the real question is: Where is Chigi?  Did they graduate her from shinjinkouen early?  I would be worried about her, except for her upcoming Bow workshop lead.

*grumble* It's probably going to take until this time next month for the Me and My Girl cast list to go up.  I have a feeling it's not going to happen, but I'd really, really like to see Kiriyan in drag... Oh well, I'm sure Yuuhi in drag will be fantastic too.
matataku_hoshi: (Micchan in Graph)

WARNING: Here be lots of spoilers, so read at your own risk.  Also, my Japanese is only so-so and I’m doing this from memory, so I apologize if I make any mistakes or if things are out of order.  Not to mention the rambly-ness.  Gomen… -_-; You might want to first read the translation of the Japanese summary that Julie did on the TakaWiki.

Because this has gotten so long and rambly I'm going to do my actual review in the next post.
matataku_hoshi: (Ume by pam_hikaru)
Disclaimer: Obviously there are those of you out there who have seen many more sora shows than I have and are more qualified to comment on this than me, but uh...I was sitting around at school with nothing to do and felt like writing something editorial-ish -_-;  This is also all obviously just my opinion.

Forgive me if this all has been said before, but after seeing Valencia/Sora Fantasista again the other day I felt the need to comment on recent soragumi.  To be blunt, ticket sales have not been very good for Valencia/Sora Fantasista.

And some very quick soragumi thoughts from when I went on Tuesday:

-The center of the B section is much nicer than the back.  It was almost as cheap as a toujitsuken and I didn't even have to wake up early to get a ticket.
-Right now sora is in the middle of the role switch.  Micchan made a very, very hot Ramon.  She had a somewhat dorkier take on the character, as fits with her otokoyaku persona.  When I say "dorky", I mean this in a good way.
-"Sora Fantasista" is one of the very few shows where the video special effects were a plus.  It fits with the futuristic, crack-filled feel.
matataku_hoshi: (Aran Kei)
So, continuing down the stack of unwatched DVDs, I finally finished sora's Phantom last night.  Like BeruBara 2001 I wasn't really getting into it when I started watching, but by the time I finished last night I decided it was a really well done show.

I think there has been speculation that if Phantom is done again, tsuki will get it.  I'm not sure where this logic comes from, but I feel the need to comment anyway.  I don't see Asako getting another western musical after "Me and My Girl" after she retires, but I may be wrong.  Regardless, I think she'd be a great Phantom.  I think you all know by now how I feel about Kiriyan being cast in just about any interesting lead role.  Vocally, I'm not sure if Ai-chan or Nene (who seem to be the candidates for the next tsuki top musumeyaku) are quite strong enough.  Personally I'm rooting for Mihoko to stay around after Asa leaves.  I think she could definitely pull off Christine.  If this show was done with Kiriyan in the lead, I could see Yuuhi as a really good Carierre.  And of course, if tsuki did Phantom in the next few years Taki-san would play Carlotta yet again.  Is there any kind of precedent for a sienne playing the same role three times?
