Ha, I am being *good* and not letting myself get any farther in my trip write-ups (including ♥♥♥ Micchan's ochakai ♥♥♥) until I get caught up on reviewing the shows I've seen up to this point. And given that I have other things I was supposed to do tonight...
----------------------------
Yukigeshiki is in three acts. Unfortunately I didn't know I was going to see the show until about 30 minutes before I ended up doing so. This meant that I didn't have time to go over the plot with Julie. And my comprehension of nihonmono is pretty spotty even on the days when I've had more than four hours of sleep... ^^;
For the record, the role switch I saw was Chigi lead first act, and then Koma lead the second and third acts.
Act I (Ai Futatsu): Was very funny <3 There was a scene with Koma that dragged on too long, but overall there were a lot of laughs and I enjoyed myself. There were also some really fun group numbers. As a side note, I had a seat far off to the left in the third row, and it was a lot of fun to watch the underclassmen gossip as Chigi got herself into trouble.
Act II (Hana Kanzashi): This one had very little singing, if at all. This was also around when I began to crash. Um...Koma was pretty, and even though I got completely lost in the plot, I thought she did well with her acting.
Act III (Yume no Nagori): The best of the three acts. It was in short, very, very pretty. This one is almost entirely sung through. I just looked up Tani-sensei's profile. It appears he also did hoshigumi's "Sakura", and it really shows here. The sets and costumes were just...really, really pretty (still not doing well on that sleep deprivation thing -_-;) Because it was sung through I didn't feel the need to concentrate on the plot, I just sat back and watched. Did I mention yet how beautiful it was? There were some nicely choreographed group numbers, and also a really cool effect with falling snow.
Performers:
Sagiri Seina: Chigi isn't really my type. That being said, I enjoyed Junjou, and I had a lot of fun watching her here as well. The first act wasn't anything new for her, but she was very, very funny <3 The second and third acts were more serious and while I think her strength is comedy, I thought she did decently.
Saou Kurama: This is the first time I've seen her in anything significant, but I thought she did really well. Her acting in the second and third acts was very good, and I remember her singing voice being pretty okay as well. Um...it was probably the sleep deprivation kicking in, but in some ways she reminded me a little bit of Kiriyan. Anyway, she's one that I'd like to keep an eye on the next time I'm watching a yukigumi show.
Maihane Mimi: Hmm...I liked her in the first act. She had decent comedic timing and a pretty voice, but I thought her acting in the second and third acts was overdone. That being said...she's ken-3. She still has room to grow, and I look forward to seeing what she becomes in a few years.Just don't push her too quickly Hankyu? :P
Natori Rei: I completely forgot she was in this until I opened my program, but once I did I was thrilled that I got to see her. She was really, really funny in the first act. Also, she has a gravelly speaking voice. When I think of her singing, I think of a certain solo bit in The Second Life where she uses that voice. I was surprised that she actually has a decent singing voice.
Ootsuki Sayu: Nacchan was my primary reason for seeing this show. Sadly she didn't get nearly as much stage time as I would have liked. She was featured prominently in the prologue and finale, but other than that she largely just showed up at the end of each act -_-; However, I'm still ecstatic that I got to see her. She has an ethereal presence about her that I love, and well...I don't get to see Takarasiennes on stage very often. Even if it was a small role, I'm glad I got to see one of my favorite musumeyaku.I do wish that it had been a role switch with the musumeyaku leads as well :P
I'm afraid I'm very, very bad at yukigumisei recognition, so I'm going to stop there.
In short, I had fun and I'm glad I went to see this one. Honestly I'm glad I just paid the regular 5000 yen from a lady on the hana no michi rather than a marked up ticket.co.jp price, but I'm still glad I got to peak in on what yukigumi has been doing lately.
--------------------------------------------------
I saw the morning performance on November 27th, which I guess was the final day for that particular role combination? Chigi and Koma gave a very cute speech about "If you liked this, come see us at the Nippon Seinenkan!" <3
P.S. Does anyone have any idea when rehearsals for the next yukigumi Daigekijou show start?
