matataku_hoshi: (Asa and Mihoko in The Magician's Melanch)
I ended up taking a picture of the Mahoroba/Magician's Melancholy chirashi.  I have a feeling that Hankyu will end up putting this on their page tomorrow, but in the mean time I'm bored and in a tsukigumi mood.  I'm assuming that if Hankyu didn't want these appearing anywhere they wouldn't have started handing out chirashi.  There's a little bit of glare from the flash but you can get the idea.

Should this be under some kind of a friends lock?  In any case, you can find the image on my photobucket account here.

So I decided on a whim that I want to write an article about Takarazuka for my JET prefectural newsletter.  It would be about a page and a half long.  If anyone would be willing to proofread it over the next day or two, I'd be very grateful.  Two questions, though.

1. TakaWiki people, do you mind if I include the URL in this article?  This is a publication that is print-only and has a circulation of 200, if I'm being generous.
2. I'm trying to figure out what to say about lesbianism in terms of Takarazuka, because I feel like if I'm addressing a western audience (which is 99% of who reads this) I need to talk about it at least a little.  Right now the very rough couple of sentences I have are:

"Of course, the first western response may be to brand the entire company as lesbians.  In reality, while some members may indeed be lesbians, this is far from true for every single Takarasienne.  Moreover, the parent company Hankyu is highly reluctant to associate Takarazuka with a lesbian image.  Even though many shows feature romance between characters played by two women, sex is rarely in the picture and even the kissing usually doesn't show the actress' lips." [more stuff needs to go here, obviously.  I would stress some stuff about the "sexlessness" of unmarried young women and talk about how siennes are encouraged to keep a somewhat masculine but sexless image offstage.  Also would add something about how the company really doesn't talk about it so to some extent you have to just read between the lines.]

I realize that there's some amount of debate in the Takarazuka community about this.  Personally, I'm of the opinion that not everyone is secretly dating each other (as much fun as it might be to think about).  However, I have a feeling that out of a company of 400 people there are probably some people who either identify as lesbian/bisexual, or at the very least have had relationships with women before.  Is this basically right?  Am I missing anything that needs to be said here?  Do I need anything aobut the "yaoi-ness" of things like the makeout scene in Cocktail?
