The universe granted my wish and showed the Scarlet Pimpernel press conference on the news the morning.  Hopefully it’ll be up on the website soon.  Two comments:
  • Originally I complained that Touko’s costume, while pretty, was too dark for the tone of the show.  When you see her wearing it live you can see that it’s actually kind of glittery.  I now think that it fits the character of Percy very well.  Oh, and obviously Touko looks hot :D
  • They sang two songs.  One was “The Riddle.”  The other…I actually didn’t recognize.  It was a solo for Touko.  I guess Frank Wildhorn wrote a new song.  I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be more, as he's never been shy about tweaking this show before.  I don’t mind the addition of new songs, just so long as they don’t cut any of the existing songs!  I worry that “I’ll Forget You” will be cut, simply because Takarazuka is cruel in its treatment of musumeyaku.  It’s a little strange that they’re giving Percy a new song, as he already gets “Prayer” and “She Was There” as solos, plus he gets “The Creation of Man” and “Into the Fire.”  Maybe Frank Wildhorn wanted to write something specifically for Touko’s voice?

(If I haven’t mentioned it before, I am greatly, greatly amused that Frank Wildhorn, who has had troubled being accepted by Broadway critics for years, may finally have found his calling in

In other Frank Wildhorn related news, I was reading an older Kiriyan article where she was asked which role she’d like to play.  She mentioned Jekyll/Hyde from Frank Wildhorn’s Jekyll and Hyde.  (Kiriyan wears a Jekyll and Hyde t-shirt in the Nova Bossa Nova shinko program).  I really hope I’m not jinxing myself by saying this *knocks on lots of wood*, but I can’t really see anyone except for Kiriyan becoming top star of tsuki after Asako.  They have to give her a western musical during her time as top, as Kiriyan loves western musicals.  I actually haven’t seen or listened to Jekyll and Hyde.  Is it too dark for Takarazuka? *scratches head*

Ohh Jekyll & Hyde is pretty dark for Zuka but Takarazuka has done darker stuff before(Phantom comes to mind), I surely wouldn't mind it for the whole world and with Kiriyan surely, ^_^! You have to listen to it, its pure fun.

As for Pimpernel, hmm a new song I don't mind and the sad part is that Only Love won't return anymore since its being used for Rudolf: The Last Kiss.

Also, I hope they use Believe as the wedding song though I loved the rewrites of You Are My Home as the wedding song.

I didn’t realize that Wildhorn put “Only Love” in Rudolph: The Last Kiss. I really like that song and I was sad that it was cut from SP2, so I’m glad it found a place somewhere.

I'm partial to "Believe" myself ^^

*stares* Kiriyan as Jekyll/Hyde? A show with her playing a vicious murderer with more than one murder on stage, including the slaughter of the second leading female? I mean, I'd love to see it, but maybe a bit too dark, yes.

I can’t really say one way or another since I haven’t actually seen Jekyll and Hyde, but (spoilers for Phantom, El Halcon, and Jose and Carmen) Phantom had the main character slaughtering several people in cold blood. El Halcon had the main character killing his supposed father, the man who was probably actually his father, and one of his love interests. In Jose and Carmen the main character kills his leading musumeyaku partner.

It may very well be too dark, but there is something of a precedent.

Actually, I think Kiriyan would have a ball with it, because running around, being gleefully malevolent one moment and emotastically guilty the next while slaughter Otokoyakus and Musumeyakus left right and centre would definitely be an interesting role.

If I recall correctly, there are around 5-6 murders, if not more. Plus suicide. It would definitely be an interesting one ;)

(And I completely forgot about Phantom. I always forget the differences between the three different musicals of it)

Okay, I haven't actually seen it or listened to the recording, but it's Frank Wildhorn. And I have a very big soft spot for his music, but... :D

You know, the more I think about it, the more I want to see the Zukas do it. They have such fun with the Gothic stuff (fun that shouldn't really be Gothic, but they make it work :D)

I mean, they need two leading Musumeyakus for it to start with and one of them is a Lady of the Night which is always fun :)

From the very little I know of Jekyll and Hyde, that's the character of Lucy, right? Often in these cases when there's a female character who is very racy, they'll give her role to an otokoyaku. Which brings up all kinds of possibilities...

Lucy, yes, I think so. I always get them mixed up, because the original cast had Lucy and Lisa as the two girls. I'm sure there was meant to be some kind of parallelism there - the two halves of Jekyll's love life, but it just got confusing.

And since Lucy's usually striding around in a corset with riding crop and stockings in her first number, it might have to be an otoko ;)

I'm so glad to have someone else squeeing as hard as I am about SP (especially since I'm more of a Hanagumi/Tsukigumi fan) and don't know much about Hoshigumi.

Oh, there is much squeeing ^^

I didn't know much about hoshigumi at first, but I've come to like Aran Kei a lot, plus some others as well.
