matataku_hoshi: (Micchan blame)

So two days ago I finally go to see Micchan's soragumi's latest kouen...

Paradise Prince is a ridiculously cute show, and in the best of ways.  My love for Ueda Keiko-sensei only continues to grow.  (I think this was her answer to Tani wanting to do Cinderella Rock again...? XD)  This is definitely Tanigumi's best Daigekijou show to date.  Ueda Keiko-sensei did a really, really good job of writing characters to each seito's strength, particularly Tani's.  I agree with other people that it felt like a Disney animated movie, once again in the best of ways.  But even with that, the plot was intelligent.  As a young person trying to find my way in the world, I found it moving.  (Well, it was intelligent for Zuka.  You know what I mean).

Tani still has a bit of The Squint going on, but it really was a good character for her.  It was REALLY nice to see Ume-chan again, and the spunky role of Katherine suited her well.  RanTomu reminded me a lot of Rika in her days as Mami's nibante.  I think it was[info]wao_wao   who referred to Tomu's character as "delicious", and I agree completely.  Her solo number was the highlight of an already very good show.  I could use more villainous RanTomu in my life <3

Ueda Keiko-sensei did a really good job of drawing out the ensemble cast.  It was really easy to spot people like Masako, Chigi, Mii-chan, Tacchin, etc, and even down to the younger ones like Eri-chan, Re-re, Kai-chan, Kacha, etc.  Ack, I apparently hang out with[info]wao_wao  and[info]kirakira_sora  way too much XD).  Obviously the usual suspects (Eriko, Tomochin, etc) were also very easy to spot.  Anyway, everyone had fun little roles.  (The one exception is Dai-chan.  She must have had a grand total of less than ten minutes on stage.  I think I would have felt cheated if I was her fan).

I also want to give a shout out to some of the older uppclassmen.  Aoi-san and Susshi were hilarious as supervisors at the animation company.  Miho Keiko wasn't in as many scenes as I would have liked nor got quite as big of a singing role as I would have liked, but she had a scene with Tani and Alice that really ripped my heart out.  Also many props to Itsuki Chihiro for her really touching scene with Keiko towards the end <3

Now, onto Micchan's character of Ralph (because obviously I need to spend several paragraphs talking about her alone XD)  Micchan briefly shows up in the prologue and then disappears for about 25 minutes.  The problem is that she was often in the same scenes as Tani, and her antics were off to the side while other people were talking.  This unfortunately means that the camera doesn't pan over to her nearly as often as I would like.

Ralph is...really hyper XD.  Almost a little bit too much, but I find Micchan's dorkiness endearing, and besides we all know that I'm in too deep anyway.  But she had some really funny moments <3  There's a twist about Micchan's character that's revealed at the end, and after knowing the twist it's really interesting to go back and watch Ralph's earlier scenes again.

If Paradise Prince had been a bad show, I would have been really annoyed about not seeing Micchan as much as in some recent soragumi shows.  But because it was really good, I'm much more forgiving of Micchan's lack of camera time.  Besides, I would much rather have a really memorable role like Ralph (even though she isn't on screen comparably as much) over a role like Breston in Reimei no Kaze (where Micchan is in a lot of scenes but has nothing interesting to do as an actress).

Oh, and the music was really catchy <3

It's...slowly getting better. Some of them I still recognize much more by face than by name, but when you watch a kumi's shows enough you eventually start to recognize people :P
