Okay, so here's part one of my attempt at translation. I gotta warn you that this isn't my strong point and I apologize for any inaccuracies. I really hope my Japanese teachers aren't weaping somewhere. If anyone feels like helping me with mistakes, I'd be very grateful.

This is from The Takarazuka III: Moon Troupe, which I think was published in 2003. Either that or the beginning of 2004. Kiriyan, Rika, and Saeko all got little features to go along with their interviews, and Kiriyan's was about Finch. I decided to give this one a go because A) it's about Kiriyan, and B) Finch doesn't use keigo.

This is only the first paragraph out of about five, so I have a ways to go.

Telling everyone about Kiriyan and Finch (part 1)

My name is Finch. I’m a boy. I first met Kiriyan in the summer of 2003. At that time, Kiriyan’s week off had gone badly, her performances at the theater had stopped1, and she was feeling extremely down. Before then she had wanted a dog, but that day when she was coming home from the hospital, she went to an intolerable pet shop2, causing the encounter between me and fate to be carried out. However, at that time, because Kiriyan herself was in a desperate state, she likely asked herself “is it okay for me to own a pet?!”3 However, by buying me, Kiriyan’s own health of body and mind were (improved?) 4. It was a crucial decision. My existence helped Kiriyan’s healing a little, so I’m happy.

1: The verb they used here is 休演する, which means “to suspend a performance.” Well, more or less. Kiriyan’s had some health problems in the past so I’m wondering if that’s what this is what’s being referred to.

2: Once again my not so wonderful Japanese comes into play here. I think Finch is taking a dig at the pet shop, but it may also be Kiriyan.

3. I played around with the translation here a little to make it sound more natural, but I think I kept the meaning.

4. This part is really giving me trouble. I threw in the “improved” just so the sentence would have some kind of meaning, cause I think that’s what they were going for. The original Japanese is:

キリヤン自身の心や体の健康によりつながるんじゃないんかと、一大決心たんだ。

If anyone would be willing to help me here, I’d be very grateful.

More will come later.

Please don't reproduce this anywhere. I may eventually post this to TakaWiki, but at the moment it's in too much of a rough-draft state. Plus I need to finish it ^_^
