You can tell that Hokushou Kairi has permanently warped my mind when I start becoming excited about a Heian era nihonmono >.> But we got Watanabe no Tsuna!!!! (Okay, so this is what I had been expecting from the beginning, but I was afraid to get my hopes up after the disappointment of BeruBara: Alain Hen.
From my limited internet research, this is what I've figured out about some of the other roles:
Toki Irisu: 酒呑童子, who is...Yuuhi's dad XD And also a demon. In between this and Masako playing Tani's father in A/L, I am terribly amused. Only the difference in gakunen between Masako and Tani was four years, while it's seven for Masako and Yuuhi ^^;;;
Hanakage Arisu: 胡蝶, Masako's niece (which I guess would make her a demon?), and Yuuhi's confidante. And she definitely isn't going to secretly be in love with Yuuhi and meet a tragic (or at least unhappy) end >.> But I'm glad to see Alice-chan get a good role.
Hokushou Kairi: 渡辺綱 Team Human and a demon hunter. This is the nibante role <333333 Love triangle between her, Yuuhi, and Sumika.
Dai-chan: 坂田公時: Team Human and a demon hunter
Kotobuki Tsukasa 源頼光: Commander of the demon hunters
Hasami Yuuya: 仏, Team Demon
Aihana Chisaki: 花園衛門, a captive court lady (Suzuna Saya has the same role description too)
Ban Akira: 千年杉, leader of the demons
I think the other major players on Team Human (aka the other demon hunters) are Houju Ichi and Sumiki Sayato. For Team Demon, there's also Amou Tamaki, Suzu Haruki and Tenrei Miou.
Without knowing anything more than the show description that Julie translated, here's my prediction for the ending: Micchan tries to kill Yuuhi. Sumika jumps in front of Yuuhi, and Micchan accidentally mortally wounds Sumika instead. Yuuhi angrily kills Micchan, and Sumika dies in Yuuhi's arm. The show ends with either 1) Yuuhi killing herself in sorrow, or 2) Yuuhi at least crying out in anguish.
...okay, so that could describe a fair number of nihonmono >.> But if that does turn out to be the ending, I want a cookie for my correct prediction ;) Er...for anyone who is familiar with the original version, don't tell me the ending quite yet).

Date: 2009-06-22 10:11 pm (UTC)For the record (and this was before a friend of mine told me the actual ending), I revised my original prediction: Fujiko and Ibaraki die, but not Watanabe no Tsuna. He seems too important in Japanese folklore to be killed off, whereas Fujiko and Ibaraki seem to be original characters.

There's a tsukigumi show (I won't say which for fear of spoiling it) that has a tragic ending that comes out of nowhere. I wasn't a happy camper :/
