So a lot of the Shangri La character names are puns and/or have second meanings based on their kanji.  This is what I have figured out so far: (and er, obviously correct me if I got any of these wrong ^^;)

Oozora Yuuhi (Sora 空):
Sky ("Sora" is an alternate reading of the "zora" part of Yuuhi's name)
Nono Sumika (Miu 美雨): Beautiful Rain (?)
Suzuna Saya (Yun 雲): Cloud
Ranju Tomu (Ran ): Storm ("Ran" is from "Ranju")
Yuumi Hiro (Aisu 氷): Ice (氷 translates to "ice", and "Aisu" would be this word in katakana)
Hokushou Kairi (Kai
海): Sea ("Kai" is from "Kairi")
Toki Irisu (Fon 風): Wind
Hasumi Yuuya (Hyou 雹): Hail
Junya Chitose (Fogu 霧): Fog ( translates to "fog", "Fogu" is a katakana-ized way of writing this
)
Nanami Hiroki (Rui
): Tears
Aihana Chisaki (Hien 飛燕): Flying Swallow (?)
Fujisaki Eri (Mizore 霙): Sleet
Sorahane Riku (Sou
): Blue
Aizuki Hikaru (Kou
): Rouge

Names I haven't figured out yet: Amou Tamaki (Yan Yan 欣欣), Houshou Dai (Bunjaku 文雀), Hanatsuyu Sumika (Fon Fon 芳芳)

I'm having way too much fun XD  Also, I'm predicting Kai-chan as Sumika's lover who vanished.  It's the kind of role she's good at, and with a name that means tears...?  Poor Kai-chan ;)

Alas Mitsuki (my favorite 94th) didn't get a named role, but neither did a lot of other people.  I'm mostly just glad that she got into a show at all.

The thing is a lot of the names have a negative connotation...does that mean that they're all on Team Evil? I'm trying to put together some patterns, but it's hard to figure out how to group them.

But I think you're right, it's going to be either Tomu or Tomochin as the Dragon King. (Actually, I'm predicting that role for Tomochin, and then Tomu playing another character altogether)

Poor Tomochin, who just wants her pure white role XD

Well the last I checked the setting isn't exactly happy XD

Though, I think I will cry and laugh if all the "sky" related people are under Yuuhi (XD) and the "water" related ones are the bad guys (which could actually make Micchan the bad guy)

iiiinteresting! i'd like to see Micchan as a bad guy!

and i think i might prefer Tomu as the Dragon King. i just think it would be nice to see such a contrast right after the character he played in Casablanca.

Ha ha, me too. She had a couple of really fun shinko villain roles. Alas, Tomochin always seems to "steal" the villain roles these days ;)

That being said, Renault in Casablanca was much more cynical than Micchan's typical roles.

Point ;)

I was browsing an internet message board and found an interesting way of grouping the names (sky, weather, birds), but I'm at work right now and my computer can't display kanji.

There is no Dragon King. ^^;; They changed the summary, remember? Now it's just "the king".

The amusing thing is that Tomochin is rather good at the "good guy" roles, if her shinko are any indication. Poor tall darling. <3

Kind of getting into something more serious, but...in brief, I want both Micchan and Tomochin to break out of their molds. Because Micchan is so good at white hat roles and Tomochin is so good at villain roles, these days they get put into these sorts of roles automatically. I'm not sure if Micchan would automatically be brilliant as a villain or if Tomochin would automatically be great as a hero, but I want them to be able to grow as actresses.

That being said, the sad truth is that most prominent siennes end up getting typecast.

I think they're both more than talented enough to pull off roles outside their typical style at this point and I definitely agree that I'd love to see both of them be challenged more as actresses. I mean, I realise that Zuka does tend to work in cliches and stereotypes, but I do still hope that both of them are given a chance to break out of their molds a bit.
